Body Lift

If you’ve undergone significant weight loss, whether from gastric bypass surgery or diet and exercise, you have achieved an admirable goal. Many women and men from Springfield and Hartford choose body contouring plastic surgery to complete their weight loss journey and increase comfort. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Glen Brooks offers his patients excellent surgical skills and devoted attention to safety and comfort.

Your Improvements

A body lift is not actually one procedure – it’s a personalized combination of body contouring procedures designed to address excess skin and fat after extreme weight loss. Dr. Brooks performs the following types of body lifts which can be combined as necessary:

  • Upper body lift often includes a breast lift and upper arm lifts
  • Mid body lift improves the waist and abdomen involving a tummy tuck and sometimes a circumferential body lift to improve the back or buttocks
  • Lower body lift focuses on the hips, inner and outer thighs, and buttocks

Dr. Brooks often uses liposuction as part of a body lift procedure to reduce remaining pockets of fat and give the treated areas a smooth contour. The individual cosmetic procedures are not always performed during one surgery. Most post weight loss patients undergo a few procedures initially and the remaining ones are staggered over several weeks or months to optimize safety and allow sufficient healing.

What to Expect

Dr. Brooks performs body lift surgery while the patient is under general anesthesia. Depending on the number of procedures being performed, you will either go home the day of surgery or stay in the hospital for supervision.

Recovery After a Body Lift

For the first few weeks after surgery, you will probably need to wear compression garments to reduce swelling and encourage healing in a compact shape. While experiences vary, most patients can return to light activities, including work, after 2 weeks. More strenuous activities should be avoided for at least a month.
