Liposuction

Hard work and discipline aren’t always enough when pockets of fat remain in spite of regular exercise and a sensible diet. Liposuction is often the solution for Springfield women and men who want to fine-tune their body contours. Dr. Glen Brooks, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, performs traditional liposuction with special attention to every aspect of patient care, including safety, comfort, and attractive results.

Your Improvements

Liposuction surgery helps women and men improve the appearance of a variety of areas, which commonly include:

  • Chin and neck
  • Upper arms
  • Tummy bulge and “love handles” around the waist
  • Hips and thighs
  • Enlarged male breasts

Liposuction can be used to enhance other cosmetic procedures like a tummy tuck or simply to remove fat from the specific areas that bother you. If your primary concern is neck fat that causes you to have a double chin, Dr. Brooks may recommend CoolSculpting® or  KYBELLA® treatments as an alternative to liposuction. Dr. Brooks understands that you have your own unique goals and he will take the time to listen to you.

What to Expect

Liposuction surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with either local anesthesia, conscious sedation, or general anesthesia, depending on the size of the areas being treated. Dr. Brooks first injects a solution into the targeted areas to:

  • Control pain
  • Inhibit bleeding
  • Make the fat cells easier to remove

He then inserts a thin tube called a cannula through tiny incisions to break up and vacuum away the fat cells.

Liposuction Recovery

After your procedure, treated areas will likely be sore and bruised. You will be required to wear compression wraps for a few weeks to limit swelling and encourage healing in a compact contour. While experiences vary, most patients can return to their normal daily activities, including work, within about 3 to 5 days, although strenuous activity should be avoided for about 3 to 4 weeks.

Results

With liposuction, you can be free from stubborn pockets of fat that detract from your fit appearance. Because fat cells do not grow back, the results of your procedure are long lasting. Dr. Brooks recommends that you stick with a consistent exercise routine and sensible diet to maintain your improved look.
