Your Improvements

Why do some women want to increase the size of their breasts? The reasons are as varied as the women themselves. Some women who have always had small breasts want a more feminine figure. Other women have lost the fullness they once had after having children. One thing that most women share in common is that they want the results to look natural. The changes patients desire include:

  • Enlarging breasts that have always been small
  • Restoring volume lost as a result of breastfeeding or weight loss
  • Balancing the size of disproportionate breasts
  • Reconstructing breasts after mastectomy
  • Enhancing femininity and self-esteem

Many women choose to combine breast augmentation with other cosmetic procedures, such as breast lifttummy tuck, or liposuction for a more comprehensive makeover. These procedures can be safely combined, allowing patients to take full advantage of their recovery time.

Personalized Options

Once you have decided to undergo breast augmentation, there are several ways in which Dr. Brooks will customize the procedure to your individual body, aesthetic goals, and lifestyle. He will review the following options with you to ensure personalized results:

  • Implant material: Filled with either saline or silicone gel. After 14 years of FDA study, modern silicone implants received approval in 2006 for women who are at least 22 years old.
  • Incision location: Concealed in the breast crease or around the nipple.
  • Implant location: Placed either under or on top of the chest muscle.
  • Implant size: Customized to your body type, lifestyle, and enhancement goals.

The first step in the breast augmentation process is a consultation with Dr. Brooks.  This is a time to get to know Dr. Brooks and for him to learn a bit about you so that he can create a surgical plan that best compliments your lifestyle.

What to expect at your Breast Augmentation Consultation

After watching a brief video in which Dr. Brooks presents basic breast augmentation information Dr. Brooks and one of his Physician Assistants will review your health history with you, from there they will discuss your breast augmentation goals and expectations.  Dr. Brooks will then conduct a physical exam and take measurements which he will use in creating his surgical approach.  Pre-operative photographs will then be taken followed by a 3D scan using our Crisalix technology to show you a virtual image of your projected results.  After your exam and photos Dr. Brooks will create a surgical plan for you based upon your discussion and physical exam.  He will then talk to you about the different implant types, his surgical technique, what the day of surgery may look like and let you know what to expect for your recovery.   In closing he will answer any questions that you may have about the procedure.  When all of your questions have been answered you will then meet Dr. Brooks’ Surgical Coordinator who will discuss the price quote, financing and payment options that are available and work with you to find a surgery time that fits your schedule.

3D Breast Augmentation Imaging with Crisalix

You don’t have to imagine what you’ll look like with breast implants. Crisalix 3D imaging allows you to see a lifelike simulation of yourself with a variety of implant sizes and shapes. Breast augmentation consultations with Dr. Brooks include this state-of-the-art computer imaging to help you feel confident about the implant options you choose.

The process is simple. We take images of your breasts/torso from three angles: right side, left side, and straight forward. These images are private, so you control access to them. Once the images are loaded into the system, you can compare how you might look with a variety of implant options, including:

  • Volume (cc)
  • Silicone and saline
  • Profiles
  • Shapes
  • Brands

The Crisalix system can even combine implants with other procedures such as breast lift and areola reduction. It is an excellent tool for clear communication between doctor and patient.

Considerations for Younger Women

While teenage girls often wish to increase their breast size, Dr. Brooks recommends his breast augmentation patients wait until they are least 18 years old to allow their bodies to fully develop naturally. FDA requirements dictate that women are at least 22 years old to have the modern silicone implants instead of saline for primary breast augmentation.

Most women can successfully breastfeed after breast augmentation, but talk with Dr. Brooks if this is a particular concern for you. Placing the implants under the chest muscles and avoiding incisions near the nipples can minimize impact to the milk glands and increase the likelihood of breastfeeding. Be sure to let him know about your plans, if you intend to breastfeed in the future.

What to Expect

Dr. Brooks performs breast enlargement for patients in Springfield, Hartford and surrounding areas. This outpatient procedure is usually complete in 1 hour. During the surgery, patients undergo general anesthesia. You will need to have someone drive you home and help you around the house for the first few days afterwards.

In your procedure, Dr. Brooks may use the Keller Funnel® to insert the breast implants, regardless of whether you’ve chosen a placement above or below the muscle. This method gives Dr. Brooks more control while inserting the implants. He can compress them slightly, which allows for smaller incisions than would otherwise be needed. With the Keller Funnel, Dr. Brooks can also insert the implants without touching them, immediately after removing them from their sterile packaging and washing them in antiseptic solution—further minimizing any possible risk of infection.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation

One of the exciting things about breast augmentation is that you will see your enhanced breasts right away, although there is often some swelling and bruising for the first 1 to 2 weeks. You will need to wear a surgical support bra for about 2 weeks after surgery to reduce swelling and encourage healing. We will also have you refrain from raising your arms above the shoulders and doing any heavy lifting for about 2 weeks. Within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery, many patients can return to normal activities, including work. You can usually resume more strenuous exercise after about 3 to 4 weeks.
