Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes or reduces the labia minora, the inner folds of skin surrounding the vaginal opening, to relieve chronic discomfort, correct asymmetry, or address aesthetic concerns. Harvard-trained board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Glen Brooks performs labiaplasty with the precision and individualized care he has brought to his Western Massachusetts practice for more than 25 years.

Women from Springfield, Longmeadow, Hartford, and throughout the region visit Dr. Brooks for his trusted surgical expertise in a welcoming, private environment.

Your Improvements

Women who experience physical discomfort or self-consciousness related to the size or shape of the labia minora are likely to pursue labiaplasty. Dr. Brooks takes the time to understand your unique concerns before recommending a tailored surgical approach.

Labiaplasty patients often seek relief from:

  • Chronic irritation, chafing, or pain during exercise or daily activity
  • Discomfort during intimacy
  • Difficulty with hygiene due to excess labial tissue
  • Asymmetry or aesthetic concerns, including changes following childbirth

Good candidates for labiaplasty surgery are typically in good overall health, nonsmokers or willing to quit before surgery, and have realistic expectations. During your consultation, Dr. Brooks will perform a thorough evaluation and explain the approach best suited to your anatomy and goals.

What To Expect

Labiaplasty can be safely performed using local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on patient preference and the extent of correction planned. Dr. Brooks makes precise incisions to remove or reshape excess tissue while carefully preserving natural contour, sensation, and function. The procedure generally takes 1 to 2 hours, and you can plan to return home the same day.

Labiaplasty Recovery

Most women can return to desk work and light daily activities within 3 to 5 days after labiaplasty. Mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort are expected during the first 1 to 2 weeks but are well-managed with prescribed medications. Dr. Brooks recommends avoiding strenuous exercise and sexual activity for approximately 4 to 6 weeks while tissues heal. If your labiaplasty is part of a comprehensive mommy makeover that features procedures such as breast augmentation and tummy tuck surgery, the recovery timeline may be extended.

At each follow-up appointment, Dr. Brooks and our team monitor your progress closely and advise you on when you can safely resume regular activities.

Results

Final labiaplasty results are typically visible within 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. While results are considered permanent, your body continues to experience changes due to the natural aging process. Most women experience significant relief from physical discomfort and report improved confidence. Because Dr. Brooks tailors the procedure to your individual anatomy, results look and feel natural.
